Update: May 13, 2022

I’ve been busy working on things.  One issue I’ve been working on is getting the alternate /e/OS operating system installed on a mobile phone, which is an open source Android implementation that has the invasive Google software removed from it.  I had a lot of difficulties getting that installed, however.  At first I bought a phone that I thought would work, but it turns out that the specific model number within that version of the phone was not compatible with it, and then I was having issues with another phone that I bought to replace that one.

I thought about giving up and just using standard Android instead, but I really didn’t want to do that.  Eventually I bought a very inexpensive older used phone online which works with the operating system.  It technically is a metallic “pink” phone, but it actually isn’t really that effeminate of a color but rather an earthy red, and that part of the phone will always covered by its case anyway so I don’t care about that.  (I ain’t no pinko-commie or whatever in any event though.. ha ha!)  It was inexpensive and it is compatible with the alternate operating system and my carrier so I’m not complaining.  I suppose I could replace the back plate altogether but I’m not bothering with that now.

I’m going to buy a good quality camera eventually with the money I’m saving, rather than spending a lot of money on a phone that would only have so-so cameras anyway.

If you are interested in installing a similar type of system, you can see the list of phones that are compatible at this link.  But make sure the phone you get is exactly the correct model number within the version of the phone, or you will waste a lot of time trying to install it.  And make sure it will work with your carrier of course, even if it is “unlocked.”

You can also buy phones directly from them as well, with the system pre-installed.
