Update: December 7, 2021

I’ve been finding myself focusing on equipment issues for longer than I planned.  It is good to get that taken care of, it’s been a few years since I’ve done that.

The fact that my current Android mobile devices can’t even see my local staging server to develop with prompted me to look into putting better operating systems onto them, but it turns out that I “underbought” with them and they don’t support alternative operating systems.  So I ordered another relatively inexpensive Android tablet and a phone device that do support that.  Those will be much more useful and secure for me.  The price of mobile devices has dropped a lot since I bought the last ones.  Both the tablet and the phone are refurbished, and I also saved money by buying a purple version of the phone which will be covered by the protective case anyway.  I suppose I could sell the previous devices, but I wouldn’t get much money for them since I bought the least expensive ones that I could at the time, and they will still be useful to have around anyway.

I will be putting the e.foundation operating system on the phone device, and LineageOS on the tablet.

This video is very interesting explaining how normal cell phone conversations are not encrypted over the air.  It is better to use a land line for talking on the phone, or using an app on the mobile device that encrypts the voice data.
