I’m a big fan of the Soyabella device, which is a fantastic method for making hemp milk. However I because curious about the possibility of other potential methods of making hemp milk, and I’ve found another way to do it although it is not as easy as using the Soyabella and it is a bit messier.
I initially knew about using fabric “milk bags” to strain the liquid from the hemp pulp after the hemp seeds have been blended with water in a traditional blender, however that technique is messy and labor intensive and the fabric bags need to be meticulously cleaned after every use, which makes that process of making hemp milk be something that is not at all practical to do every day.
As an alternative, I tried using a normal mesh strainer to see if the milk could be separated from the hemp pulp that way, but that didn’t work because the strainer immediately became clogged.
So recently I’ve purchased a new type of stainless steel strainer which has larger holes than a typical mesh strainer, and it works well for making hemp milk as long as you manually keep the holes clear as you are pouring the liquid into it. I just swirled my finger over the surface of it to keep it clear while I was pouring, but I see now that some such strainers are actually sold with “pestles” to be used for that purpose. I haven’t seen such strainers be promoted for the use of making hemp milk, but they are rather just generally promoted for straining the contents of canned food.
The strainer is usually just promoted to be used to strain canned vegetables.
The strainer isn’t perfect for making hemp milk because the process is still rather messy due to needing to use a blender, but it is effective enough to be useful. It is a much better technique than using a fabric bag for separating the pulp. I would still definitely recommend using the Soyabella over this strainer due to the “messiness factor,” but the strainer is a good option if you are on a budget or if you need to make large amounts of hemp milk at once every time.
Note!— People should realize that the “messiness factor” of using the above blender technique instead of using the Soyabella for making hemp milk is a rather big one, which makes using the Soyabella totally worth it as a part of a daily routine due to the sheer simplicity of using it and how easy it is to clean. Also the Soyabella is capable of making soups, porridges, and also soy milk by first boiling the soybeans in the water, and it can also work as a coffee grinder, which are even more reasons that it is a great investment.
